Rockport Black-on-White ceramics, such as jars, bowls, and ollas, are covered and/or painted with asphaltum. Typically, the asphaltum was painted around the lip of the vessel and/or in vertical curvilinear designs on the slip. These sherds were recovered from Oak Mott (41AS92) and Ingleside Cove (41SP120) and date to the middle prehistoric period. Photo by Robert Ricklis.
