| This unique specimen was manufactured from a shark vertebra. The entire surface is polished as if from use and the central hole for the spinal column has been enlarged by drilling from both faces. The edges have also been slightly ground. The WPA archeologists believed it was an ear plug or "spool." Similar artifact forms were worn by high-ranking individuals in some Mesoamerican and Southeastern societies. |
