Artifacts like this are never common and are thought to be practice pieces used by a flint knapper perfecting the difficult technique of creating narrow notches. This style of notching is found on Andice and Bell dart points dating to the early Middle Archaic period (several fragmentary examples of these styles were found at Pavo Real). |
