View looking north up the Victoria Barge Canal toward the chemical plant formerly owned by the DuPont Corporation. The Buckeye Knoll site lies to the left of the photo. Much of the site had already been damaged or destroyed by the construction of the original barge canal. Plans by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to widen and deepen the canal led to the archeological discovery and investigation of an Early Archaic cemetery dating to over 7,000 years ago.
