Second sandstone grinding slab from McMullen County vicinity, both sides shown. In contrast to the above specimen, the material of this one is not as hard, not as well cemented, and has smaller sand grains, as a consequence, the two grinding facets (top image) is deeper. At the bottom is the natural unmodified surface. Note the bedding layers visible on the side of the artifact as well as on the working surface as lines of alternating color.
