Alex Krieger, archeologist and ethnohistorian, traced the route of Cabeza de Vaca through Texas and Mexico based on his translations of the explorer’s 1530s account. Krieger’s knowledge of the region—it’s geography, natural resources, and native peoples—sets his book, We Came Naked and Barefoot: The Journey of Cabeza de Vaca across North America (University of Texas Press 2002), apart from others.
