The major drainages of the eastern South Texas Plains have the highest
concentrations of natural food resources (plants and animals) across the region. Most of the major
prehistoric cemeteries are located in major river valleys because these areas were favored occupation
zones. The San Antonio River near Goliad is thickly lined with riparian (stream-side) woodlands, shown
