| Houses for the settlers who had no rank or status were little more than crude huts, made of upright wooden poles, the spaces between them filled with mud. Roofs were covered over with bison hide that dried and shrank in the heat, leaving gaping holes for rain to pass through. Reconstructed house on display at Museum of the Coastal Bend. |
