The virtual museum of Texas' cultural heritage has been recognized with the 2008 Award for Excellence in Public Education by the Society for American Archaeology (SAA). The society, an international professional organization of more than 7,000 members, is dedicated to the research, interpretation, and protection of the archaeological heritage of the Americas. The Public Education Award recognizes excellence in the sharing of archaeological information with the public and is based on the following criteria: public impact, leadership, promotion of archeological ethics, and creativity in programming.
