A trading session between a French trader and his Caddo partners and Kichai Indians at the Gilbert site, ca. A.D.1750, as envisioned by artist Charles Shaw. The Gilbert site represents a deer hunting and hide processing camp located within Spanish Texas that has clear evidence of trade connections with the French. Trade with this site undoubtedly flowed through Natchitoches and it is possible that the Spanish at Los Adaes were involved as middlemen. All of the items depicted are based on archeological finds. See
Gilbert site exhibit for details.
