Caddo Indians,
the first settlers in the Piney Woods, used young pine trees
to frame their houses and temples. In this artist's depiction
of a scene around 800 years ago, teams of Caddo builders
set tall flexible poles in a circular frame for a large,
dome-shaped house. Painting by Nola Davis, courtesy Texas
Parks and Wildlife Department, Caddo Mounds State Park.
