Lutcher. The lure of land drew the Pennsylvania lumberman
and his partner, G.B. Moore, to Texas in the 1870s. Lutcher
and Moore constructed a "state-of-the-art" sawmill
at Orange and purchased timberland on both sides of the
Sabine River. The two later built three railroads: the Gulf,
Sabine, and Red River; the Mississippi and Ponchartrain;
and the Orange and Northwestern.
