Small chipped-stone arrow points known as Perdiz were the favored type for hunting with bows and arrows. The tiny points, distinctive for their contracting stems and barbs, were hafted to wood or cane shafts with cordage and asphaltum, a sticky black tar that occurs naturally on the coast. Karankawan hunters used long bows and arrows for hunting large game such as deer and bison on the fringes of the coastal plain. Photo by Robert Ricklis.
