Words in Karankawa (Clamcoeh) language recalled by Jean-Baptiste Talon in 1698. The young Frenchman, along with his four siblings, was captured by the Karankawa during their brutal attack on Fort St. Louis, near present-day Victoria. The Talon children lived among the group for several years, during which time they absorbed much of the Karankawa culture and language and were tattooed in traditional style.
