| The second post hospital, completed in 1874, replaced a smaller structure from the 1850s. The new structure, set well apart from other buildings at the fort to curtail windborne germs and odors, housed the offices of the surgeon as well as a wing for patients. The building to left is the dead house, or morgue. |
