The Little River, a major tributary of the Brazos River, is formed by the merging of the Leon and Lampasas Rivers of central Texas. Below that confluence, the Little River meanders eastward within a wide floodplain that crosses the Blackland Prairies and western edge of the Oak Woodlands. These different ecological zones and the floodplain forest that follows the river provided a wealth of resources to the prehistoric inhabitants of the J. B. White site.
