Photo of wild onions
Wild onions form large patches in grassy areas of nearby prairies and likely were easy to collect for food. Archeologists discovered the burned bulbs of wild onions in hearths and baking pits at the J. B. White site. These spicy bulbs may have been used to flavor meats or other foods baked in the pits.
