Section of a map by Italian cartographer Vincenzo Coronelli that was published in 1742. Coronelli died in 1718, meaning that this is a copy of a map made several decades before the publication date. The map does not depict La Junta, although it lists associated native groups including the Conchos, Patarabueye, Tobosos, and Jumanos and others in the approximate vicinity. It also shows the northern mining districts including Santa Barbara, the prime source of slave raiders. Map source: American Memory Map Collections, Library of Congress. |
