A well-developed tradition of rectangular pithouses is characteristic of La Junta, and began in the La Junta phase, A.D. 12009-1400. A multi-room pueblo documented at the Millington site is believed to date to the initial period of village life at La Junta. This structure has strong architectural parallels in the El Paso area, which led Kelley to believe that the first La Junta villagers were colonists from that area.
