First page of Kelley’s reply to Lehmer’s letter of November 27, 1940 from Lehmer. Kelley was then living in Camp Spicewood, Texas (near Austin) where he was directing WPA excavations along the Colorado River. Kelley makes reference to Lehmer’s pioneering on the Jornado Mogollon culture in southern New Mexico and adjacent far western Texas. This exchange shows that both archeologists were considering the developmental relationship between the El Paso area and La Junta. From the J. Charles Kelley papers at the CBBS, Sul Ross. |
