The La Junta villagers were part of a vast social and economic network spread across northwestern Coahuila, southern New Mexico and far western Texas known as the "Casas Grandes interaction sphere." Lying some 200 miles west-northwest of La Junta, the prehispanic city of Casas Grandes or Paquimé was the region's dominate center of power, population, and cultural sophistication between A.D. 1200-1450.
