| Grinding stones, used to process certain foods such as seeds and other vegetal materials, were found at the site. A metate (right of the base of the arrow), the tabular stone on which the grinding takes place, and a mano (left of the base of the arrow), the hand-held grinding stone were recovered in close proximity to each other, suggesting the two were associated. Made of quartzitic sandstone, both artifacts were recovered from the Darl occupational surface. The mano shows minimal use-wear and was only lightly used on one face. The metate is a unifacially utilized, fine sandstone grinding slab. Broken through the middle, only half of the metate was recovered, and consequently the original dimensions cannot be surmised. |
