| Stone tools from Feature 86, the burial of a 35-45-year-old man who was also accompanied by two engraved whooping crane whistles, an olivella bead necklace, and a polished mussel shell. The chert artifacts shown here were found in a tight cluster on the man's lower abdomen near and around his right hand. In the top row, from left to right: a thin bifacial knife, two trimmed blades, and a prismatic blade. The other specimens are all blades and blade-like flakes that all have evidence of edge modification or use wear. Compared to most lithic artifacts found at Mitchell Ridge, or for that matter at any site on Galveston Island, these tools are quite large in size and very early in their potential use life cycles.
