Archeologists termed these residential remains " Storm House," because summer rains flooded it when they were excavating it. The larger Storm A house had a gap in the line of wall posts on the east side that probably was the doorway and a number of interior posts, sometimes in pairs, that may represent benches or alcoves along the walls. A large shallow pit with an intrusive small pit and a smudge pit used to generate a smoky fire were along the western interior wall, opposite the entryway. All of these features are consistent with historic descriptions of Caddo houses that mention raised beds or sleeping alcoves, a central hearth, and a either a special-purpose or storage area across from the entryway. |
