Plan of Feature 8.1088. The brownish stain around the remains of the individual is a decayed wooden burial litter. In addition to the bottle placed near her right hand (No. 4) and a bowl (No. 1) and two jars (Nos. 2 and 3) situated east of her upper torso, she wore a pair of large stone ear spools carved with a circle-and-cross motif that is common on pottery vessels in other graves. She must have worn these ear spools in life as well, and they probably marked her as an important person in the community. |
