Artist Jose Cisneros painted many scenes of south Texas history, including that of salt traders at La Sal del Rey. The art was commissioned by the Hidalgo County Historical Museum (now the Museum of South Texas History) in Edinburgh, Texas, for their 1998 book, Borderlands: The Heritage of the Río Grande through the Art of Jose Cisneros.
