| : Obsidian Nodules: These small nodules are from the Mule Creek source in New Mexico. Flakes and arrow points of obsidian are found at sites in many parts of Texas, the result of long-distance trade. Other obsidian specimens found in Texas have been identified to sources in the Jemez Mountains (New Mexico); Yellowstone (Obsidian Cliff, Wyoming; Malad (Idaho); and several areas in central Mexico. Because it is a rapidly formed volcanic glass, obsidian and artifacts made from it can often be linked to its geologic source by "fingerprinting" of its rare trace elements.
