This is one of about 30 pithouses found by University of Oklahoma archeologist Scott Browsoske at the Odessa Yates site in Beaver County of the Oklahoma Panhandle. This oval structure measures about 16.4 by 13.1 feet (5 by 4 m), which includes a small alcove attached that may have served as a storage area. The structure had two roof support posts and vertical wall posts around the perimeter of the deep pit (the post holes and edge of the house are highlighted). No clear entryway was found, and the entrance may have been through the roof. Photo and graphic by Scott Browsoske.
