Jewelry

Rings…tiny amulets…coins…pipe stems…. These small, forgotten keepsakes and treasures are perhaps the most poignant reminders of the people who lived—and died—at the site of Fort St. Louis. Among this collection are bits of French apparel such as shoe buckles, Native ornaments such as a pendant made from an animal tooth, and a large number of Spanish ficas, or talismans, used to ward off bad luck.
