From his post at Natchitoches, the French discoverer Bernard de La Harpe explored the Red River and its tributaries to the west in New Spain and to the east in New France Louisiana. This map reflects his first-hand knowledge of the area and is the first to depict the newly established Presidio Los Adaes.
