The main scale is given in toesas, Spanish for the French measurement toise, equivalent to a fathom (originally, the distance between the fingertips of a man's outstretched arms). Officially, toise is said to equal 6.4 feet or 1.94 meters. Therefore, the total length of the scale, 70 toesas, is about 448 feet or 136 meters.
